Feminine fanaticism
“Manchester United advanced to the finals of the Champions League!!” I squealed with joy, jumping up and down while almost tripping over my duppatta. Yeah, you read it right. I did mean duppatta and I am a GIRL.
I bet quite a few eyebrows must have shot upwards at the very idea of a girl liking football. Most guys seems to think girls don’t have a clue as to what a free kick is, who Ronaldinho is, which club Kaka (I love him, by the way) belongs to etc, etc. A guy who passed by gave me a weird and surprised look at hearing me talk about Manchester United. Big surprise!
Oh, come on! We girls don’t sit with Barbie dolls, nail polish or lip gloss 24/7! We do watch football conveniently forgetting about our maths assignment or social test (oh my god!!!!!) and fight with our mom and dad for a Liverpool t-shirt or a Arsenal t-shirt (It was a firm “No”, btw) Ok, Ok! I admit it. Maybe my friends and I do spend some, alright, a lot of time, gossiping about how hot or cute Cristiano Ronaldo, Torres, Fabregas and Gerrard look but hey, give us a chance! Oh, please! And if someone asks, “Do u like Chelsea?”, we girls are not going to reply , “No, I like the Red Sea better!”, and neither do we think Roger Federer is a football player. We are not that pea-brained!!!!!!!
Maybe it’s time the stereotype image of girls just sitting at home and knitting (gag, gag) vanishes from everyone’s mind. Maybe it’s time that the surprised, disbelieving looks stopped coming our way. And maybe its finally time for the world to change. I can’t wait!!
