Pirate adventure, ahoy!
BIG SCREENÂ
Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Cast: Johnny Depp, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush
The Walt Disney release of yet another series of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise hit the screens last Friday. Directed by Rob Marshall, the movie is yet again about Captain Jack Sparrow’s adventures.
In a nutshell…
For another time, Captain Jack Sparrow, along with all the others, undertakes the journey to the unlikeliest of all places: the “Fountain of Youth”, where the climax is set. Johnny Depp again takes the centre stage in this adventure, obviously in his own style. The film has its share of surprises, twists and turns, and of course, action!
The plot is set in breathtaking locales, and the movie also turns out to be a thriller throughout. We get to meet mermaids in the journey, and for those of you who think mermaids are lovely creatures after the fairy tale, “The Little Mermaid”, the movie will make you think otherwise.
As usual, the movie sets off with a good start, and an equally good ending, giving us a plethora of reasons in between to laugh and enjoy. Together with the crew, and of course the Captain, they hunt for the chalices and the mermaid to get to the fountain of youth-an Indiana Jones-ish objective, but in the pirate-ish way-the movie proves to be a thriller just like its previous sequels. Fans will walk out thoroughly satisfied.
Bottomline: This movie is two-and-a-quarter hours of pure fun!

Malavikha, while I concur with some of your views, I have to disagree that the film was fun and fun only.
I have enjoyed all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies but for this one. I had to force myself to sit through the whole movie, which was disappointing.
There is Jack, Gibbs and Barbossa. It had neither anyone else from the previous editions nor any connection to them. As a fan, I could not help but imagine that this was a movie made in the hope of ‘cash’ing in on the earlier success.
The mermaids were refreshing, with a shade of darkness. Some moments evoked a chuckle or a grin. Johnny Depp and the locales were the only bright stars in the sky which helped the movie sail.
