‘Angry young man’ returns
Movie: Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood, Hema Malini, Sonal Chauhan
The proverb “old wine in a new bottle” is stood on its head by the movie. Director Puri Jagannadh comes back to the silver screen to bring Amitabh in his “angry young man” image, but in a much more stylised way. Even though the movie is not very well crafted, it stands out because of the superstar.
Plot
A typical Mumbai underworld story where a Dubai-based don, Kabir (Prakash Raj), has sleepless nights because of a new ACP, Karan (Sonu Sood), who promises to wipe out all gangsters and make Mumbai a crime-free city in two months.
Kabir hires Viju (Amitabh), an ex-gangster from Paris, to kill the ACP. While the ACP is busy trying to woo his pretty damsel (Sonal Chauhan), he is unaware of the threats to his life. The story moves on but with twists here and there, which grasps the attention of the audience.
Kudos
Puri Jagganadh has not come up with a “something-new story” but succeeds in making a fun-filled entertainer. It is a visual treat for audiences of every age to see the evergreen Amitabh dazzle in garish outfits, dance, deliver classic dialogues and show off some swash-buckling action.
Prakaash Raj is the stereotyped villain. Sonu Sood is great in his new police avatar. Hema Malini, even though she has only a small role, has done a good job as has Sonal Chauhan. The music is just okay, except for the title number. Amitabh’s costume designer deserves special mention. The cinematographer has also done quite well.
Bottomline: Overall, the movie is surely a winner. It catches the attention of the audience and is one of the very few movies that makes the audience leave the theatre with a big smile. Watch it for the “Bbuddah”, sorry the “angry young man”.
