Movie: Happy Feet Two
Cast/Voices: Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Pink, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon
Five years back when I saw Mumble tap dance his way to survival, I fell in love with penguins and decided someday I should actually have one as a pet. The all dancing, all singing animated penguins return in the second instalment of “Happy Feet”, and bring twice the fun and excitement along. Mumble, our cute little penguin from the first part is now all grown up and happily living with his family in the penguin world. However, his son Erik is still struggling to figure out his hidden talents and is ostracised by the fact that he can’t dance. He ventures out seeking companionship and mentorship in anyone along the way. At one point he finds a mentor in a penguin that can fly. Meanwhile, when the penguin world is confronted with an imminent threat — a drifting iceberg, all penguins unite to save one another.
George Miller once again weaves together two subtle messages: a doting father-son relationship and an environmental threat that is rapidly progressing even as we speak. He also brings humour and love in adequate proportion that keeps the film alive and audience entertained. The film also boasts of successful debut of new characters such as Sven, Bill and Will, along with familiar faces such as Lovelace and Ramon. Unfortunately, Happy Feet 2 is not blessed with quality music, and one might feel that this is where the director seemed to have gone wrong. On the other hand, the charming penguins, with their wit and cuteness sweep us off our feet and leave us wanting more.
Bottomline: Put your dancing shoes, go there and dance with these cute, little creatures.
