CHILL OUT When weekdays pass by so quickly that sometimes you forget what you have done, make sure the weekend gives you a breather. GAURI SHAH
Time is on a marathon; the days move so fast that you feel like you are on a perpetual roller coaster. Sounds familiar? Then it’s essential to catch that breather once in a while to rejuvenate and refresh, more so to be able to battle that daily stress. Why not make the coming weekend just that; make it white for some internal peace.
Spirituality is the balm for our soul right now. Yoga, meditation, pranayam… anything that detaches your mind from the stress is your answer. Practising certain calming yogic poses cleanses the body and mind from toxins; make sure to check with a yoga instructor in case you’re a beginner. Meditation; emptying your mind of thoughts or allowing all subconscious thoughts to flow, in both cases is therapy in itself.
A QUIET READ
Give your religious scriptures a read, you’ll be surprised to feel the healing powers that lie in every word etched out in these sacred folds. Pick any of your choice/faith this weekend. Nobody seems to be able to explain the calming effect these have on our minds. For those who can’t manage or don’t want to get religious, pick a book by your favourite author instead. Words in any form always seem to do the trick.
SOUND OF MUSIC
Music is a universal healer; but put away metal/ hard rock and listen to something quieter this weekend. Instrumental, anything from the sitar, shehnai, tabla to the violin or the saxophone is a delight to the ears. With no words to concentrate on, let the notes wash over you
Take advantage of the many gardens/parks in the city, they could be your sanctuary. If you’re feeling like everyone is squeezing the breath out of you, take time to quietly fill your lungs with oxygen. Carry a book or your iPod and just stroll around observing all the greenery. The Olympians could trek or jog; workout is the best way to let the stress seep out. You can also pick a near-by vacation spot; someplace not too far though; you don’t want to spend all weekend in the car.
Sometimes, just being in the presence and company of loved ones is enough to make you feel at peace; so do just that this weekend. Turn to your parents, siblings and even close friends for comfort. Go for a movie, take your pet to the park, organise a big brunch and invite everyone over. Even if you’re with the whole family and unable to converse; it’s okay, just being around them is enough to make you feel restored.
Soothing your body is a detour to soothing your mind. With anxiety pounding out of your veins, a trip to the spa is the perfect solution. Book yourself at the nearest spa and try out their various treatments from hydro therapy, foot reflexology to the Swedish massage to completely detoxify.
