Movie: Underworld 4: Awakening
Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Sandrine Holt, Theo James
I cannot figure out why this movie was even made in the first place. The story line seems very lopse and the actors themselves seem clueless. Anyway, here’s the review.
The movie picks up from where the third movie ended. But this time the humans become the enemies and begin a massacre of werewolves and vampires, or it seems. A new hybrid is born and the werewolves are after it. And Selene as usual has to save the day. She has to protect herself, find out the truth about the werewolves and protect the child hybrid as well. All this she has to do waking up from a coma which she was in for 12 years.
Yes, she does get help from a few bunches of vampires who went into hiding during the massacre. But again, they barely come in the movie. And then there is also the good cop who would help the vampires beat the werewolves who are now much stronger and powerful making the fight look completely uneven. The movie shows that the existence of vampires is hanging on a thin thread and how Selene with her gift from Alexander Corvinus can overpower all the werewolves put together.
You can see the effort put in by Kate Beckinsale for this movie. But it is not always that one actor can make a senseless movie into a watchable one. None of the other actors seems to impress and all of them seem tired. If there is one thing that anyone would be interested in, it is the 3D. But it is only blood splashing in all directions and a few fight sequences with swords that are graphically appealing and good to watch. The only thing that made me happy was this movie was not long and ended quickly. It’s a disgrace to the previous three movies. The director should have concentrated more on the story line than the visuals.
Bottomline: I would rather sleep than be awakened.
