CONCERT Headbangers celebrate with more music at the pre-Summer Storm party organised by Unseen Underground. MAHIMA DAYAL
Saturday night brought with it the pre-Summer Storm party, which was a combination of rock and metal bands that set the drift for music lovers, at Geoffrey’s in Chennai.Excitement for Summer Storm Festival, which is to be held in Bengaluru on February 5, was captured by Unseen Underground, which hosted four bands — Goddess Gagged from Mumbai, Deviance from Vellore Institute of Technology, Sycorax from Darjeeling and Trojan Horse from Chennai.
Four bands from sundry parts of the country came together to play the music that drives them. Deviance, which plays progressive metal, started with a song called Luminum. Jayakrishnan, the drummer for Deviance said, “We are all excited, for this is our first gig in Chennai.”
Trojan Horse a groove metal band based in Chennai started their set with Convoluted Entanglement and covered Toxic Garbage Island by Gojira and People=Shit by Slip Knot. The crowd spurred when they sang their own compositions, like Infiltration Achieved and LIMCA.“It’s good to see that outstation bands are playing here, watching them gives the audience a fresh perspective towards original Indian rock and metal music,” said Siddhartha Ramanathan, guitarist for Trojan Horse.
Trivinesh Subba, vocalist for Sycorath, explained his band’s music: “We play pavithra gorkha metal, extreme metal and blend it with indigenous Nepali music.” The band is a fan of Megadeath and aspires to cover songs of the band, Job for a Cowboy. With Sycorax, the bands bridged the metal scene in Chennai with that in Darjeeling. The love for metal embodied by these bands offered them a good stage to pool the talent together.
Goddess Gagged who played after almost a year in Chennai after IIT Sarang last year, performed tracks from their album called Resurfaces. They pleased the crowd with their seven-track album, which includes Visionary, Rosemary’s Baby and Sink or Swim. Even though Summer Storm is taking place in Bengaluru, the storm’s already kicked off in Chennai.
