FEST Ethiraj College for Women’s annual cultural festival — Srishti 2012 was a potpourri of competitions, celebrities and camaraderie.
Over 4000 students from 50 colleges, 24 events in various categories, two days, one Jamboree — Srishti ‘12, co-sponsored by Volkswagen, was indeed an eventful circus organised by Ethiraj College for Women.
After the National-award winning Tamil director Vetrimaran lit the kuthuvilakku, there was an interaction session with the students. Singer Benny Dayal, RJ Gopida, singer Sujith, quizzer V.V. Ramanan, Dr. Keshav, Ashok Saravanan, Balaji Maheshwar, Tupakeys band, Arun from LVDS Dance Co., Carnatic musician Dr. Narmada and Sanjay Ansari also graced the show. Over 50 different stalls attracted students and teachers alike with Frankie, Kolkatta Chat, Fruit Shop and the coffee stall put up to promote “Konjam Koffee, Konjam Kadhal”, being favourites.
“It was one crazy experience putting up the circus, With 12 committees involving 350 students, working through the day,” said Students’ Union President Samantha Saradhy. The theme “Circus” was exhibited in most of the events by adding colourful elements to the rule sheet, like the fashion show that was based on the theme “Go Gaga!” An informal photo booth resembling a circus tent had people posing with circus props like colourful wigs, clown nose and funny coolers for pictures.
The finale was attended by actor Srikanth and music director Devi Sri Prasad whose performance had everyone in high spirits. Dr. Jyothi Kumaravel, the Principal of Ethiraj College felicitated the chief guests at the valedictory function.
“The Press Committee has been on our trail for the past week, tailing every event coordinator, union member, organising committee member — you name it! Clicking embarrassing pictures, making bloopers out of every single move…” revealed Archana Padam, Joint General Secretary, Students’ Union. The newsletter of Srishti ‘12, “The Circus Circuit” was released last week.
