CONCERT The Luminance Project turned out to be an inspiring and moving musical experience.

The Luminance Project, organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, that was held at Kalakshetra recently, taught me a new definition to music and nature. This Project is a Indo-Dutch fusion by Meeta Pandit, the granddaughter and disciple of Padma Bhushan Pt Krishna Rao Shankar, and Heiko Dijker, a Dutch tabla player. It was undertaken by the duo to show how classical music can bring about happiness and peace within people. The concert also included the charismatic German saxophone and flute player, Ulrich Bernd Schroeder, a.k.a. Praful. Guitarist Wim den Herder added a strong bass to the project.

Musical triumph

This journey of realisation started from Keelkattalai when I got into a M1 to reach the venue of the performance. It’s strange how a place can bring about such a transformation in someone; a transformation from a life of mourning and depression to a life filled with peace. When I stepped into the venue, the sound of the tablas and saxophone welcomed me. The music spoke to me. The music made its way into everyone’s soul. Praful’s dedication to Eesha (his new born) was truly fabulous. Call it a bad phase in life or whatever, but Meeta Pandit’s voice consoled me, so did the strings of Herder’s guitar. Meeta presented her enchanting voice for the first time outside of the classical realm. The team started off well and their conclusion was breath-taking. Besides their perfomance, the interaction and the way they engaged with the audience have to be mentioned.
