Give him a big hand

It isn’t easy to come up with something new. It’s even more difficult to think up a name for it. What does it take —magic, impossible degrees of inspiration or simply a flash of genius? Ben Kumar, class XI, Good Earth School came up with the title NXg. The applause hasn’t died down yet. Why NXg? Amid loud cheers let’s hear it from Ben.

“I was very excited to be a part of the focus group meetings. The discussions were intense and many ideas were thrown up by people from various schools and colleges. While coming back from the first meeting, I started thinking about a name. I knew it had to be catchy and attractive and show that this supplement is meant for the next generation.I didn’t want to give a name which had words like “young” and “teen”. I was thinking of something more complex and something more professional. I came up with NXg because it’s everything about us put together in two words. It implies more than just being young; it’s more to do with who we are and what we mean to the world. NXg reminds us that we are the next in line to run the world.”

  1. I watch city based videos quite often. When I opened The Hindu this morning the tabloid NXg strikingly hit on my face with the same name I was familiar with! I do not understand the logic of ‘coming up with something new’ and ‘giving a big hand to this young boy’ It is a lesson for the present day youth to think different and not claim anything existing to their credit!
We, the general public especially the media are responsible for sowing the right seeds in the young generation’s mind.

  2. I had mentioned the name of the city video website’s URL inmy comment which bears the same name - NXG. This was deleted by the moderator.

The comment without the URL does not relate to the message i wanted to convey through the comment!

  3. Revathi ! dont crib. The panel of professionals at “The Hindu” have accepted the name “NXg” and for sure they know more about this business than you and me.So stop cribbing and lets give the young chap a hand!!!! Maybe you could have come up with something more catchy if you had the chance…how sad.

  4. Kammagarani! Sad that you have not understood the point behind the comment. I am not cribbing, but want to bring to the notice of everyone that NXg is not a new name ‘invented’ by this chap!
This is how we encourage the younger generation to get away with anything. Remember Kavya Viswanathan’s case two years ago?
Yes, The Hindu knows the business better. But looks like it does not know ethics - not to call something utterly new and great idea even after when it has been pointed out.
Hmmm… It happens when a reputed newspaper hands over responsibility to people who lack experience, in the name of encouraging youngsters!

  5. Hey
give it a break. its a great name. lets leave it at that. its an even greater paper because it lends my generation a way to voice our views, in our own style.

  6. hii..
i found this abbrevation very catchy and penetrating.Well gr8 effort being done by this little lad.

  7. the name reflects the motive that it is a mirror to the next world of doers, and there is absolutely nothing bitter to be called unethical regarding this issue.using the right words ,is in fact more of what ethics is.

  8. I know this name ;)
    It’s short for Nexusglobe .. .
    Ah, those where the days.

  9. Nxg-Short n Sweet!Whether copied or not, this young lad had the brains to come up with such a catchy name!!Cheers Ben!!!
