Get it right

Just make sure you’re not following the wrong celeb.

INDU SUNDAR

Many of you follow your favourite celebrity to soak up all the fashion and style cues. But here are a few fashion faux pas you’s rather avoid.

Tragic static: Breezy silk dresses are pretty. Unless you make the same mistake Paris Hilton did when she paired her flimsy dress with tights: major static cling.

How to avoid the static cling problem? Try these tips: Spray hairspray on your tights, this takes care of static cling. Use a product like static guard to avoid the cling.

Or even better don’t pair your silk dress with tights.

Still a teenager?: When should you stop dressing like a teenager? When you’re old enough to be a mother to one.

Born in 1970 (you do the math), Mariah Carey is way past the age when a see-through red lace top (ugh, red lace?), distressed tight jeans and red wedges make a passable outfit for a public appearance.

Too much?: How much skin is too much? Well if you flaunt a style that looks more like you forgot to dress; you definitely get thumbs down. Don’t do a Becky Newton, although she nailed her role as the scheming secretary in “Ugly Betty”. She is still struggling to get her red carpet look right.Sophisticated separates: “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester dresses as well off the small screen as she does on. For a recent public appearance she chose this sleeveless ruffle-front blouse and pencil skirt.

Just like her character Blair, Leighton punches the basics up with colour. And her new shorter hair- do looks great, too (but will it look as smashing in headbands and turbans as Leighton’s long locks did?)

Knee-length boots are a must have. They are timeless and complement a variety of outfits. Buy one that fits well with a hint of a heel and lap up the praise that comes your way.
