Gimme red
Jazz up your looks for the Cupid mood. SHILPI MADAN
You made a New Year resolution to pamper yourself this 365×7x24. So get ready to toast Valentine’s Day with your special someone and bring in the following five to sass up this February 14…

Fragrant notes
Long-stemmed red roses are to Valentine’s Day what kisses are to love. Bring a rose for your Valentine’s Day gift as a bouquet, in potted versions or, better still, accompanied by luscious strawberries sheathed in chocolate and a satin ribbon swathed box of rose-flavoured French soap. Nothing beats red roses when it comes to symbolising passion.
Aphrodisiacs
Bursting with sweetness and a vital vitamin cocktail for your senses, juicy strawberries make super finger food. Toss in luscious strawberries with cream scoops for a dessert or dip the Valentine fruit in molten chocolate. Perceived as an aphrodisiac since the days of the Roman empire, the strawberry symbolises Venus, the goddess of beauty and allure. As for red wine, sip and swirl the ruby nectar languorously. If you tank up, you just might end up snoring and kissing adieu to a romantic interlude. A popular legend: if you break the strawberry in half and share it with someone you want, you will soon fall in love with each other. Try it.
Mane toss
Hesitant about colouring your locks? February 14 is a perfect time to colour your mane dark plum or light pastel with a strawberry tinge. Freshly wash and condition your mane and bring in a layered cut, as opposed to a single length in strands. This creates superb hair volume and breathes movement into your mane when you walk. Then blast dry: Put the dryer on full blast. Simply run your fingers through your hair. Toss up when dry. Tousled, sexy and twice in volume.
Ruby lips
Luscious red lips script a rosy blush to your cheeks and make you feel sexy. Choose your red tone carefully. Rule of thumb: If you favour nicotine, choose a less bright red. Powerful red rocks on fair skin. You must be appropriately de-whiskered before you reach out for that vivid hue. If your skin has pink undertones, wear a red with a pink base. For a warm, cinnamon tone, sizzle in wines, plums and cherries. Remember, a brighter red works well for candlelit confines. Glossy vixen shades look superb on outdoor locations.
Pirouette on
Get into the groove with the little red dress. But avoid the same colour in shoes and accessories. Your shoes could be black or emerald toned while minimal jewellery looks best. Else opt for a single shouldered choli with a plain, red chiffon sari and couple with either medium-sized ruby earrings or a winking neckpiece. Play with the crimson bag, sassy glares, the geranium red peep toe-pumps, carnation shaded talons and bold, sensuous lingerie in the colour of passion.
