Oozing confidence and charisma is Krishna Ram Bhupal, Director Projects of GVK Industries. His baby, GVK One, is the newsmaker in the malls sector in Hyderabad. Apart from the best of brands, he also brought the INOX and a Hard Rock café to his mall. On the work front he has a lot to his credit — be it a swanky terminal, the new airport in Mumbai, and now GVK One. He may have been born with the proverbial silver spoon but he strongly believes that nothing can be achieved without determination and hard work. And there is more to his persona one finds in this exclusive interview with NXg.

Other interests

His grandfather sent him to the U.S. at the age of six to hone his tennis skills and Krishna stayed on to finish his education there. “Tennis is my first love and I went there to get trained. I even reached the top 5 in Asia,” he says. Prod him further and he reveals his fitness regimen. “I love sports especially tennis. I box every morning at 6.30 a.m. and lift weights.”Business runs in his blood and he majored in three different subjects: History, Art and Finance and joined the family business. “Before joining GVK Industries I worked in Hong Kong for a year to gain experience,” says Krishna.

Though granddad, industrialist G.V.K. Reddy was a key factor, his inspiration was his father, “who taught me the art of perseverance and the willingness to succeed. He was my idol.”It’s not just all work in this young Turk’s life. If not playing tennis he’s either reading or indulging in adventure sports too. “I have sky dived single 20,000 feet and a free fall for 14 seconds!” And if that was not enough he encountered a huge shark in one of his expeditions. “That was scary,” he adds. He loves travelling too and finds each place special in its own way in regard to culture, beauty and history. Meeting up with friends is on his list every week! Scorching trails with his enterprise he seems to be the centre of attraction at any gig he attends.
