Evil did Exist at Evernight Academy. Creeping among the shadows, at the very essence of blood-starved vampires. The story revolves around Bianca Olivier, an introvert by nature, who reluctantly agreed to join Evernight Academy. The beginning describes Bianca’s dislike for the new atmosphere and surroundings. The very fact of socialising with new people with shared perfection came as a pretty shock to her. She had no way out. Enter Lucas Ross, Bianca’s charming protector. Her only support and probably her only reason to be a part of Evernight.
Interesting twists
A love story evolves between the two, an easy trick to attract teen readers. There is a vivid description of life in a dormitory, school atmosphere, girls discussing boys, exams and classes as well. As the story advances, there is an unexpected twist. By the time Bianca adjusts to the place, acceptance of her “true being” strikes her. As soon as the first twist sinks in, another one comes making the book an interesting read. Numerous literary devices and visualisation capture the reader’s mind. The reader can easily identify with the variety of emotions portrayed: love, hate, betrayal, discovery, astonishment, and happiness. A neat analogy has been drawn with Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Twilight series’.
It is an appealing read for the early teens still lost in the world of vampires and with belief in immortal and boundless love. Here, in the case of Bianca and Lucas, it is two teenagers madly in love with each other. Both individually running to conceal their respective secrets, yet, merging to protect one another.
