One step at a time…

It was a lazy Sunday morning. I was curled up on the sofa, sipping a mug of coffee and browsing through one of the local newspapers. I happened to come across an ad about a pre - school that left me feeling shocked and outraged. The ad read “Extensive interview preparation for LKG admission.” Gosh! What is the world coming to?
Merit counts
I am in my final year on the lookout for a decent job. I strongly feel that the company willing to recruit me should select me only for what I am and not for which ‘interview preparation academy’ I went to. Of course, it is good to brush up on our soft skills before an interview but an extensive interview preparation programme for a toddler who has just learned to talk is rather too much!

Over-anxious parents who want their kids to be the best, attend the best schools, the best colleges, get the best degree and work for the best companies are willing to pay through their noses. But isn’t school a temple of learning? It is where a child gets the first whiff of what the outside world holds for him. Isn’t it unfair to burden a child with these pressures when he/she is barely two or three years old? Instead of deliberately pushing a child into the rat race for something almost unattainable, wouldn’t it be better if the child discovers the world slowly one step at a time? Of course, there will be thorns on the way but that would make the flowers smell even sweeter. Children must be allowed to grow at their own pace, enjoying the nuances that life has to offer. As William Henry Davies rightly said,”What is this lfe if full of care.We have no time to stand and stare.”
