It is my habit to go through the newspaper every morning. One day while reading an article on the exact age of a student to start writing using a pen, I remembered the first day I wrote using a pen.
Choosing the best
I was in Std IV, and the date was March 1, 2004 (I don’t even remember my history dates this accurately!). The date was announced early enough to have our debates on the best pen in the town and which one to opt for. I was determined to get the finest of all pens and make my friends green. I decided to choose the ink pen as they were vibrantly coloured over the gel pens. The thought of having to fill ink everyday and the pleasure I would get out of it, excited me. So, I set out on a mission to get the best pen and did manage to get one.
Finally the big day came. We were all waiting for our teacher to say, “Open your notebooks and take this down!” And the moment she said that, we did it readily as anticipated. We were extra careful with our handwriting and I was very bothered whenever I made a mistake and had to strike a word. Now times have changed and I don’t to seem to be concerned neither about the pen I use, as long as it writes, nor about my handwriting as long as it is legible. But still in the book of my life the page I started to write using a pen has a special place in my heart.
