NEW IN TOWN Robustaa, a café-cum-sheesha lounge at Kilpauk, has shaped up to be a perfect hangout for those who love good food and conversations. SIDDHARTH JAIN
Robustaa, the new café-cum-sheesha lounge in town derives its identity from a type of coffee originated from Central and Western Africa. It is set to be yet another casual hangout for the youth of Chennai. The fresh fragrance from within is inviting.
The interiors are rather contemporary and a range of themes run across the various rooms, those including Mediterranean and Western concepts. Walls painted in vivid colours enrobed in plush curtains add to the elegance and personify each area eloquently. A dim-lit outdoor area furnished in cane and bamboo seems amazingly calm amidst the noisy streets. The soothing sound of the bustling waterfall works as a stress-reliever for most. “Robustaa is designed in such a way that each room has its unique identity and none of the themes is repeated, henceforth maintaining their individuality,” says Sneha Jain who was responsible for the decor.A party hall capable of hosting around 50 people boasts of a wall-sized projection TV as a promotion to the oncoming World Cup. However, the choice of music is a little disappointing and does not compliment the indigenous interiors.
Robustaa serves an array of delicacies ranging from pastas, submarines, noodles, burgers, pizzas, buritos to coffees and desserts. Cheese Dynabites are a hot favourite among cheese lovers. Linguini Olioaglio, a cream cheese sauce pasta served with garlic bread, is equally irresistible. Grilled Garden Submarine is an option for those watching their weight. The legendary Lindt Shake deserves two thumbs up for retaining the inimitable taste of chocolate. The Carbyns beach cooler, essentially a mix of lemon, mint and Sprite, is not as delightful as expected. Robustaa Lava and Waffle with maple syrup and ice cream are a perfect finish to the feast.
Robustaa is a venture undertaken by two young brothers — Rajesh and Vishal Jain. “The sole idea behind opening this place was to introduce a vegetarian sheesha lounge where youngsters could relax in a soothing ambience and earlier than I realised this brainchild went on to becoming a reality in a span of three months,” says Vishal. Robustaa has the potential to become the buzz of Chennai and give its competitors a run for their money.
Robustaa is located at: 24/67, Halls Road (Next to Fathima Church), Kilpauk, Chennai-10.
