Onboard the ‘funloid’

The tabloid has been and continues to be powered by the writing from its contributors. Some have been with us for the last three years and some joined in along the way. Here they share their experience of being a part of NXg.

I love gadgets. I love writing. NXg has helped me combine my two passions and advance them. Writing for NXg keeps me on the prowl for latest pieces of technology that I bring to the masses. NXg has also allowed me to write simple how-to guides for the general public that translates jargon into layman’s terms.

Writing has always been my passion and now NXg has become my middle name. Everybody requires an opportunity in their life and NXg has provided me just that. My friends and well wishers now think of me as a person of substance. Seeing my parents and in particular grandpa talking about my articles to their friends, makes me feel ecstatic. And now I am rich by a few thousands too, thanks to NXg. Keep rocking!!

If I’m counting down from the day I write this, I have roughly a month minus a few days to complete my degree. And like all ends, this one too makes me want to look back at what’s past and laugh (or cringe) at the many things that defined these three years. Ranking right up there would be NXg. From my very first piece in this space (highly cringe-worthy, btw) to this, it’s been absolutely memorable. One, because as I wrote, I learnt. Two, seeing your name in the paper is still so cool.

P.S: This time last year, I’d promised to keep to word limits. It’s not always been possible, like now for instance. Editors are forgiving as always, though.

It is a privilege to write about non-mainstream music in a mainstream newspaper and develop new listeners, most of whom have probably never heard such music before reading these articles. It’s been a growth for the underground music scene also. And the best thing about NXg is that it always deals with very positive articles unlike other youth supplements who always try to relate youth with glamour and gossip.

It has been such a long and exciting journey with NXg that I cannot look at anything with an indifferent eye anymore. There is always some story, some potential idea or cause that needs attention, lurking under every small thing that happens around me! Writing for NXg has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Needless to say, this relationship has educated me on the power of voice.

It’s been three years? Wow, as clichéd as this sounds, it seems like I received a copy of the first NXg only yesterday! It’s been a blast writing for the paper — probably THE only paper that gives youngsters such a platform. I thought the excitement of seeing my name in print would die down eventually. But truth to be told, it hasn’t. Not one bit. I still get goosebumps seeing my article and my name down there, whenever they get published. I had no interest in critiquing whatsoever. NXg has helped me look at things critically. It certainly has been a wild ride and I feel honoured to be a part of it. Here’s hoping you folks have many, many such anniversaries in future.

NXg is an unparalleled platform. It allows aspiring journalists like me to voice our views and practically assures us an audience. Personally, it has been my playing field to learn, practise and improve. With every article in the last three years, NXg is encouraging the individual in me and respected my opinions. Finally, NXg has given me some great friendships. To me, NXg is more than a great addition to my resume. It is an indispensible part of my schedule.

NXg has given me a platform that provides absolute freedom from the stereotypical clutches of society. Writing for this ‘funloid’ has been the experience of a lifetime. It has given me the exposure and opportunity to meet people who view life from a different perspective and who have achieved so much in life. And it indeed has been a learning experience with every opportunity. It has also given me a chance to voice my views on various issues, reveal dreams and aspirations. It has been a part of my life for a long time now and it ever will be.

Every word that I write reflects my thoughts and opinions. Writing for NXg has been a completely different experience for me. NXg has helped me sort out things in terms of writing. It has taught me to experiment and not be afraid to write, even if you have no clue about the topic. NXg has helped me grow, and so has my writing.

NXg came across as a platform for writing for many aspiring writers in the city. The first time I wanted to write was when I watched “Enthiran” and wanted to tell people what it was really about and NXg was there to get it out. From there it started. Whenever I had something to say about anything, I got it out through this supplement. It also helped me realise that I could actually write. So this is me tipping my hat to all you wonderful folks at NXg who are helping so many other hopeful writers realise their dream.

Though I moved out of Chennai, I have still been able to contribute regularly; it gives me that bond with the city I grew up in. And yes, seeing my name in print means a lot. But, leaving all this external recognition aside, the time I spent writing for the NXg has been more of a self-realisation exercise for me. It has taught me a lot, subconsciously. Writing for NXg is a passion that shall live forever. And this little piece comes with a sincere ‘Thank You’ to all those who have helped me evolve.

NXg to me has been a source of expressing wildlife conservation concerns that we face in our times.  It has given me a chance to write out my experiences with nature. Some sad,  some funny, but on the whole when I look back at the now yellow pages I smile — maybe somewhere someone read the article and decided to go to for a turtle walk or go bird watching.
